a scent story…
When trying to fathom the reason for my genuine obsession with tobacco-based fragrances, I once again had to search back in my memories to work out where the fascination had come from. The realisation hit me like a ton of bricks…
As a child of the 1980’s, living in a small, modest market town on the edge of the Pennine Hills, our only ‘sweetshop’ also doubled as an old-fashioned tobacconist. Once a week, pocket-money in hand, I would visit this shop, (which in my memory looks like a sort of Edwardian Apothecary, but it was probably much more quaint than that…), and I still clearly remember the impact of the aroma as you pushed open the heavy wooden door. I was captivated by that smell, coming from the huge glass jars, filled with their strange amber-coloured leaves.
In this 4th blend of my signature collection, tobacco is softened by the inclusion of leather, reminiscent of the leather pouches that would have also been for sale in the sweet-shop of my memories…
The scent of a bygone time.
Rich, woody, mysterious.
